With the white house's heavy focus on helping Vets get employed, they added a tax credit component for any vet who's been unemployed for more than 4 weeks. When a company hires a vet, they need to submit documentation to support the fact that they are a vet, the date they were discharged - typically a DD214 for suffices. However, if there was a way through everify that this information could be online, it would help employers capture the credit without having to ask their new employee for their discharge papers. Note that this credit applies to all vets, not just recent discharges. A lot of older vets probably have lost their DD214 (as I have).
