DHS and SSA should ask employers to post a sign in theirs office that states that the names on their SS card should be the same as the names they put on the form I-9. When jobs hunters fill out their form I-9 for employment, this would save time for both parties and avoid letters bean sent to either parties about mismatch names.
Remove Section 3 and require a new I-9 to be completed for all new hires, rehired, and reverifications. In addition, require an E-Verify case to be created for each I-9. This would standardize the process and improve compliance rates. However, it may require legislation to implement.
Identify in Section 1 that the employee's email and telephone number are optional, rather than making the employee read the instructions to find this out. Section 1 appears to be designed to trick the employee into entering these optional fields, which i think is wrong.
Why do we still have I-9 forms at all?

The I-9 Form should be revised to permit an employee and the employer to write not only the Employee's Permanent Resident number, but the card number (from the back of the card), as well. E-Verify cannot be run without both numbers.
There's too much data entry. The employee has to fill out the form, and the employer has to reenter the information into E-Verify. Let's cut out the middle man.
Here's what I suggest:
Make Section 1 available online.
1. The employer gives the employee a link to the form, and s/he fills... more »
Given the rise in questions to government agencies, attorneys, and electronic I-9 suppliers regarding TPS and DED, it would be most helpful to add a link to DED information to I-9 Central and highlight the existing TPS link and new DED link. TPS and DED information should be added to the Acceptable Documents and FAQ pages too.
I can open the enhanced I-9 on my Mac, but I cannot open it on my iPad. Has... more »
