I am a big fan of E-Verify. But, whoever designed the new Form I-9 (OMB No. 1615-0047) obviously never had to complete the E-Verify form on-line. Having done so for thousands of employees, I was dismayed to discover that the new I-9 consists of 2 pages with essential information on each side. Come-on guys! The least you could have done was put all the information required for E-Verify on one side with the fields... more »
SS Number box on I-9 has grids, but they restricts the font size if employee fills it out by hand. It's hard for the employer side to see. Please remove the grids! Thanks!
I just read through the instructions for the new I-9 and saw that fields for an email address and phone number have been added to section one. According to the instructions, the fields are optional. However, the fact that entering this information is optional is not noted on the actual I-9 form. The fields on the I-9 should read: E-mail Address (optional) Telephone Number (optional). I can see where a lot of people will... more »
Can we please have section 3 expanded for several re-hire (as a second page to the I-9? We have called several times and received different answers to the same question. We are a temporary Job Placement agency, we send an employee to work for 2 weeks we e-verify, then he has a break for 2 days. He then returns to work on assignment for 1 week - we fill in section 3 as a rehire. (Per direction from the help desk-we... more »
One of the risks to employers and immigration is the use of Tribal Docs in B & C. The document lacks guidance on what is acceptable. More detail should be given if all Native America ID's ( even those not federally recognized such as Piscataway Convoy Tribe) on whether or not the document is acceptable. Also, some tribes have sold their membership ID's to aliens to get them work (Little Shell Pembina). The use of these... more »
Remove Section 3 and require a new I-9 to be completed for all new hires, rehired, and reverifications. In addition, require an E-Verify case to be created for each I-9. This would standardize the process and improve compliance rates. However, it may require legislation to implement.
With the new form, our remote employees are having difficulty understanding the use of an agent or a notary. Most cities have federal offices of some kind which could help completed these forms. I would also like to see the form changed so that column B and C are interchangeable. It is amazing how often document information is put in the wrong column and then we have to send it back and people get annoyed to have... more »
Government issued ID's only with photo. No exception.
Identify in Section 1 that the employee's email and telephone number are optional, rather than making the employee read the instructions to find this out. Section 1 appears to be designed to trick the employee into entering these optional fields, which i think is wrong.
I think the Other Names Used (if any) line should say, Other LEGAL Names Used (if any)
In Maryland, minors are required to have a work permit prior to their first day of work. Please consider using work permits as a form of identification (List B document) for minors.
minors should able to fill out their own employment verification eligibility form 1-9 once the form is signed by a perparer or a translor in certification block of the form 1-9
Presenting your ID to an employer as proof that you are permit to work in the united state is good it prove that DHS and USCIS agencies is working to make Immigration system better by letting the employer verify the status of the employee whit USCIS for social security and income tax payment from the employee pay
I have asked this question several times before. Our company has completed several acquisitions over the past two years. We have noted during our due diligence that the Form I-9s were non-compliant. So as the Handbook for Employers states, we can prepare new Form I-9s. We do not have HR personnel in the field so when we have 250 new Form I-9s to certify and then enter into E-Verify, it is extremely difficult to meet the... more »
I was hoping that something could be done about the "other names used" field on the I-9 form. As far as I'm aware, the purpose of the field is to list previous names in case documentation or records needed to verify work eligibility are in a different name. However, it has the side effect of forcing transgendered people to disclose their status to their employers. As a transgender woman, I do not like being forced... more »
