Form I-9

I9 Form

Why is there the need to have the employees include thier addresses? We will have this information on file for a new hire. Also, it is not entered in E-VErify and in trying to create error free paperwork it would be great to elminate this field all together.

J1 Students No Social Security Number when filling out I-9

I am to understand E-Verify checks the Social Security System to make sure the Social Security Card is a match to the person on the I-9. If the system checks the Social Security System to make sure the information matches. Why can’t we put a person in the E-verify without a Social Security Number?
(1) Have a place where they can put the date and place they applied for the Social Security Card.
(2) If the system... more »

Allow Candidate Entry of Section 1 Information

For ease of submission, it would be great if we could allow potential new hires (past the offer but not yet started with the company) to submit their information for Section 1. I have seen instances before where you can input the new hire's e-mail address and it will auto-generate an e-mail to them asking them to complete Section 1. Then when they come in with documentation, they will not have to fill out a form-- we... more »

Simplify I-9 Form

The I-9 form needs to be simplified. I really believe that Section 2 should not be mandated if the employer is using E-Verify. Most of the information in Section 2 is entered online and what is not entered (ex. Drivers License number) could be added. An E-signature could be added for certification and attestation that documents were examined and appeared to be genuine...the print out of the employment authorized page... more »

Make form I-9 an online form

Let's make Form I-9 an online form (Section 1, at least). When matched with E-Verify, the paper form seems redundant and inefficient.

There's too much data entry. The employee has to fill out the form, and the employer has to reenter the information into E-Verify. Let's cut out the middle man.

Here's what I suggest:

Make Section 1 available online.

1. The employer gives the employee a link to the form, and s/he fills... more »

Post TPS and DED links and/or information on I-9 pages

Given the rise in questions to government agencies, attorneys, and electronic I-9 suppliers regarding TPS and DED, it would be most helpful to add a link to DED information to I-9 Central and highlight the existing TPS link and new DED link. TPS and DED information should be added to the Acceptable Documents and FAQ pages too.

Add Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240) to List C

The Dept. of State issues three documents to prove a citizen's birth abroad (Consular Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240, FS-545, or a DS-1350), but the Form FS-240 is not listed with the other two documents on the I-9 Central List C page. Add this document and an example to the I-9 Central List C page.

Status of Non-REAL ID Compliant Driver's Licenses for Form I-9

Since DHS appears to be cracking down on states that issue driver's licenses that are not compliant with REAL ID by not accepting such documents for air travel or access to federal facilities is it possible that the law could be modified so that non-compliance documents are not acceptable for Form I-9? Some of the states at risk include Alaska, California, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey and South Carolina. DHS recently... more »

Improve Display/Print Options for FAQs on I-9 Central

The FAQ page on I-9 Central will only print the answers if the user first clicks all of the + signs to reveal the answers. A few suggestions to consider:
1. Provide a single button to reveal all answers rather than requiring the user to click each + sign individually.
2. When printing the FAQ page automatically print all of the answers.
3. Allow an individual question and answer to be printed without printing all FAQs.... more »

Enhanced I-9 not working on iPad

I have the Adobe Acrobat Reader app on my iPad, with DC subscription to Document Cloud. I have followed the instructions to save the I-9 (enhanced version) to the Document Cloud, and then go into the app to open the I-9. However, it will not open (it tells me I need Acrobat Reader, which I already have and am using with all updates complete).

I can open the enhanced I-9 on my Mac, but I cannot open it on my iPad. Has... more »
