I tried everify for my son. It did not work with current address but worked with old address. He is not working and hence hasn't filed his IT returns. How would his address get updated on his evrify account? Employer may not go through the pain of verifying with old address!
Many people who work in the US commute from Canada and Mexico, they should be able to use self verify to check their employment status as well. I have found that it is possible for cross border commuters who have a US credit card with a US mailing address on it to use self verify while in the US as self verify uses Equifax. Equifax operates in Canada so it wouldn't be terribly difficult to do.
I just received info on the myE-Verify and Self Lock. In the staffing industry the idea that employees could have "locked" their info from INQUIRY by a registered and valid e-verify company can slow down the employment process and cause cases to be late (over 3 days). On the My E-Verify Site - when you "Create Account" -after you do the self-check and receive "Work Authorized" status you should be given a message that says you are not eligible for My E-Verify or SSN Self Lock in your state at this time. Instead the site sends you back to "Create Account".
Only 5 states are currently eligible for SSN Lock. This should be prioritized for all states.
When an employer submits an E-Verify case for someone who has locked their SSN through MyEverify, the message should say that the SSN is locked through MyEverify vs TNC. I had a TNC that I have been trying to figure out for 2 days. The name, birth date, SSN and ID info were all correct on the Social Security Card, Passport, Birth Certificate. The Case History feature of myE-Verify prompts the user to enter their SSN and DOB. The DOB is easily entered by entering the mm/dd/yyyy or using the calendar. However, the SSN is entered in 3 separate boxes and the user is required to tab to the next box. The focus should automatically change to the next box when the first box is filled. This behavior would provide a better user experience and improved ease of use.
If the employee's email address is not entered in Section 1 of Form I-9 and/or the employee has a myE-Verify account, use the employee's email and mobile telephone number in myE-Verify to notify the employee of changes in their E-Verify case such as a case created, employment authorized, TNC, referral, FNC, FNC review, and changing a TNC to employment authorized. Use myE-Verify to post links the proposed FNC documents and keep the links active for some period of time.
When accessing Self Check from myE-Verify the user has no button to return to myE-Verify. This may be because myE-Verify is only linking to Self Check. However, this is an unacceptable user interface and should be addressed by providing a return or cancel button on the Self Check menu when Self Check is accessed from myE-Verify.
When entering the SSN in myE-Verify to request a Case History report the cursor should automatically skip to the next field when the required number of digits are entered by the user. There is really no value is having three fields (xxx-xx-xxxx) if the user is required to click to enter each field. If this is not corrected, then a single field for the SSN (with our without dashes) should be provided.
The page title(s) for myE-Verify should reference myE-Verify rather than Self Check. Perhaps this is because myE-Verify is built within Self Check, but it can be confusing to users. Also, if myE-Verify is built within Self Check, then the user should be able to easily return to myE-Verify after selecting Self Check.
